Skyline Cheeseboard

The Skyline Cheeseboard is my first endeavor into food-safe products. This project involved woodburning and learning how to finish wood with cutting board oil and conditioner, instead of the usual polys and Danish oil.

  • Woodburning first! I drew out a few famous parts of the Los Angeles Skyline, and added a quote from a song about LA.
  • Sanded the board down to 800 grit, and rounded the edges by eyeballing it, as I do not own a router.
  • Used cutting board oil and a conditioner to finish the board in a food-safe way.
  • The finish turned out beautifully.
  • The color came out warmer and brighter than the original wood.

Rose Garden Sign

I made this rose garden sign as a gift. I love drawing and pyrography, and I decided to add a bit of paint pen accents to this one.

  • I bought the wood piece ready-made because I wanted the natural edge.
  • Burned in a quote from “Le Petit Prince” along with a translation.
  • I learned how to sketch a rose.
  • Burned in the main lines.
  • Burned in the shading.
  • Added some paint accents. In future, I think I would go with a lighter paint. This one blended into the the burning.
  • I added some vines with green paint accents.
