When I started my workshop, I had my Miter saw on a coffee table. I needed a better work space, so I made this basic mobile workbench (BMW) from Steve Ramsey’s design. It is 2′ by 4′, which is small enough to fit in my garage with my car. This was a great first project to learn the basics through trial and error. Overall, the best lesson was learning that wood is resilient to mistakes.

The first step is getting the lumber and a drill set, miter saw, and vacuum for my shop. I was starting from zero. 
I cut the lumber down to size using my Miter saw. These pieces would be paired up and secured with wood glue and screws to make the legs. 
Here I’m taking the legs and squaring them up with a crosspiece to create the ends of the frame. 
Two ends done. 
Added the 4 stretchers to complete the frame. It was starting to look like the end product. 
I added a support in the middle, which would later be used for the shelf divider. 
I cut out and attached the bottom plywood pieces. The top was made of 2 sheets of 3/4″ plywood glued together. Here it is, drying in the background with weight on top of it. 
I added shelving and dividers using the remaining plywood. 
The top of the bench is attached to the frame with screws. Overall dimensions are 2′ by 4′. There is a handy overhang between the top and the frame that allows space for clamping. 
I only had scrap wood left to use for the narrow shelf, so I glued these two pieces together with a brace underneath. Ugly but functional. 
I sanded down the table edges so it would be comfortable to handle. Next I added 4 locking casters. 
Added a bar to hook the square onto. 
And another bar on the other side to store the clamps. 
This workbench is now the keystone of my workshop.
